About

When: April 10-11, 2015

Where: Ritz-Carlton Philadelphia

People analytics is a data-driven approach to managing people at work. Those working in people analytics strive to bring data and sophisticated analysis to bear on people-related issues, such as recruiting, performance evaluation, leadership, hiring and promotion, job and team design, and compensation. These are recognized as decisions vital to an organization’s success yet are famously prone to bias and error. Increasingly managers recognize these biases. And increasingly they have data and analytic tools available to address them. Together this provides a huge opportunity for advances in how organizations make people-related decisions.

Our goal is to provide a clearinghouse for those working in people analytics or interested in doing so. We have seen interest in this area explode in recent years -- in companies, students and researchers -- but have been struck by how disconnected the field is. We want to provide a forum in which organizations and individuals can learn from each other about best practices, common traps and promising opportunities.

Next spring the Wharton School will host a 400-person, 2-day conference on people analytics. The conference will be a mix of speakers, panels, social opportunities, a student case competition and a research paper competition. We expect to have attendees from companies experienced in people analytics, as well as those just beginning work in the area. We expect presentations on historical successes, as well as on cutting-edge methodologies. And we expect companies interested in meeting the next generation of people analytics experts, as well as members of that generation looking for a home for their talents.
